Innovation gets going at ITC Europe 2026

Chaired by the 'Queen of Insurtech', Sabine VanderLinden, ITC Europe 2026 once again proved why it remains one of the insurance industry's most influential gatherings.
Held in the magnificent La Llotja de Mar in Barcelona, the event provided a fitting backdrop for discussions about the future of insurance. Often described as Barcelona's equivalent of the Royal Exchange, La Llotja has been a centre of trade, commerce and innovation for more than 600 years, making it an inspiring venue for an industry focused on transformation and growth.
Over two packed days, ITC Europe brought together hundreds of senior insurance executives, technology innovators, investors and industry leaders from across the globe. What continues to set ITC apart is its uniquely strong insurer-to-vendor ratio, ensuring conversations remain grounded in the real-world challenges and opportunities facing insurance businesses today.
Turning innovation Into business value
A recurring theme throughout the event was the industry's increasing focus on moving beyond experimentation and delivering measurable outcomes. Conversations centred less on future possibilities and more on how insurers can deploy innovation today to improve operational efficiency, enhance customer experiences, strengthen risk management and ultimately improve profitability.
Artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, digital underwriting, claims prevention and customer engagement technologies featured heavily throughout the agenda. What was particularly encouraging was the number of insurers now moving from pilot programmes into large-scale deployment, demonstrating that innovation is increasingly becoming embedded within core business operations.
Supporting industry innovators
At NextGen Communications, we were proud to support three organisations that are helping drive meaningful change across the insurance ecosystem: MAWDY, Optalitix, and Onics.
MAWDY: Transforming assistance services for the digital age
As MAPFRE's global assistance and mobility business, MAWDY continues to redefine how insurers deliver value beyond the traditional policy. Through digital assistance services, connected ecosystems and customer-centric experiences, MAWDY is helping insurers create stronger relationships with policyholders throughout the entire customer journey.
By combining technology, mobility services and assistance solutions, MAWDY enables insurers to increase customer engagement, improve retention and create new revenue opportunities while delivering greater convenience and peace of mind to consumers.
Optalitix: modernising underwriting through intelligent automation
London-based insurtech Optalitix is helping insurers and MGAs accelerate underwriting innovation without the lengthy and costly system transformation projects that have traditionally slowed progress.
Its platform enables insurers and reinsurers to deploy sophisticated underwriting models, pricing tools and decision-making capabilities rapidly and at scale. By allowing businesses to digitise complex underwriting processes, Optalitix helps improve speed, consistency and accuracy while empowering underwriters to focus on higher-value activities.
As the insurance market continues to seek operational efficiencies and smarter risk selection, solutions such as Optalitix are playing an increasingly important role in helping carriers adapt to changing market demands.
Onics: Bringing IoT intelligence to risk prevention
Nordic technology innovator Onics showcased how Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are helping insurers shift from risk compensation towards risk prevention.
Through connected devices and real-time monitoring capabilities, Onics enables insurers and customers to identify potential risks before they develop into costly claims. Whether monitoring property risks, environmental conditions or operational exposures, the company's technology helps reduce losses while improving customer outcomes and engagement.
This proactive approach aligns perfectly with the industry's growing ambition to move beyond traditional insurance models and create continuous value for policyholders through prevention and protection.
Meaningful conversations and future partnerships
One of the greatest strengths of ITC Europe remains the quality of networking and relationship building. Across the event, discussions were focused, commercially relevant and centred on solving real business challenges.
The conversations held by MAWDY, Optalitix and Onics generated significant interest from insurers, brokers and ecosystem partners alike, creating opportunities for future collaborations that could help accelerate innovation adoption across the market.
The media missed a story
While attendance from across the insurance ecosystem was exceptionally strong, it was notable that relatively few media representatives were present. Given the scale of innovation on display and the number of significant announcements and partnership discussions taking place behind the scenes, many journalists missed an opportunity to witness some of the developments that are likely to shape the insurance sector throughout 2026 and beyond.
A significant step forward
Having attended previous editions of the event, it was clear that ITC Europe has evolved considerably since Barcelona 2023. The maturity of solutions, the quality of dialogue and the willingness of insurers to embrace innovation all reflected an industry that is increasingly confident in deploying technology to create tangible business outcomes.
Congratulations to the entire ITC Europe team for delivering another outstanding event. If the conversations and innovations showcased in Barcelona are any indication, the future of insurance looks increasingly connected, intelligent and customer-focused.
